2023 WNBA Playoffs Begin!
Las Vegas Aces and New York Liberty Advance to Semifinals
Chicago Sky and Washington Mystics Eliminated
The 2023 WNBA Playoffs have commenced with the conclusion of the first round. The top-seeded Las Vegas Aces and New York Liberty both swept their opponents, the Chicago Sky and Washington Mystics, respectively. The remaining two series will begin on Wednesday, August 30.
The Aces, who finished the regular season with a league-best 26-8 record, dominated the Sky in the opening round. Las Vegas won both games by an average of 15 points, led by A'ja Wilson's 22.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. The Sky, who upset the fourth-seeded Atlanta Dream in the first round, were unable to match the Aces' physicality and firepower.
The Liberty also advanced to the semifinals with a convincing sweep of the Mystics. New York won both games in Washington, holding the Mystics to just 66.5 points per game. Breanna Stewart led the Liberty with 20.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per game, while Sabrina Ionescu averaged 14.5 points and 8.5 assists per game.
The remaining two series will feature the third-seeded Connecticut Sun against the sixth-seeded Minnesota Lynx, and the fourth-seeded Seattle Storm against the fifth-seeded Dallas Wings. The Sun and Lynx will face off in Connecticut on Wednesday, while the Storm and Wings will tip off in Seattle on Thursday.
The WNBA Semifinals will begin on Sunday, September 3, with the Aces taking on the winner of the Sun/Lynx series and the Liberty facing the winner of the Storm/Wings series.
