2001 Boston Celtics: A Season of Disappointment

In a season plagued by injuries and inconsistency, the Boston Celtics finished with a disappointing 36-46 record.

After posting a record of 49-33 the previous season, the Celtics entered the 2000-01 season with high hopes. However, those hopes were quickly dashed as injuries to key players and a lack of team chemistry derailed their season.

One of the biggest blows to the Celtics was the loss of star forward Antoine Walker, who missed 30 games due to injury. Other key players, such as Paul Pierce and Kenny Anderson, also missed significant time due to injuries.

In addition to the injuries, the Celtics also struggled to find a consistent lineup. Rick Pitino, who was in his first season as head coach, experimented with several different lineups throughout the season, but none of them seemed to click.

As a result of all these factors, the Celtics finished the season in fifth place in the Atlantic Division and ninth in the Eastern Conference. They failed to qualify for the playoffs, marking the first time they had missed the playoffs since the 1996-97 season.

The 2000-01 season was a major disappointment for the Celtics, but they would rebound the following season, finishing with a record of 49-33 and making it to the Eastern Conference Finals.
